One endpoint for any MCP-compatible client
01 · Connect
Add the remote server, authorize your workspace, and ask your assistant to use ShipPDF.
Set up a workspace in ShipPDF. Your templates and documents become available to authorized connections.
Add the endpoint to your client and authorize the connection with OAuth or an API token with the permissions you need.
Choose a published template and share your data. Your assistant generates the document and retrieves the PDF link.
Connect the remote server with OAuth or an API token. Find the full walkthrough in the setup guide.
In Customize → Connectors, add a custom connector named ShipPDF. Paste the server URL and sign in to authorize your workspace.
https://mcp.shippdf.com Enable the connector in your conversation and ask Claude to use ShipPDF.
Add ShipPDF from your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http shippdf https://mcp.shippdf.com Then run /mcp in Claude Code and sign in when prompted.
Enable Developer mode in Settings → Security and login, if available. In Plugins, create a developer-mode app named ShipPDF with this URL and select OAuth.
https://mcp.shippdf.com Complete ShipPDF sign-in, then select the app in your conversation’s Developer mode menu.
Ask your assistant to find a published template:
Use ShipPDF to list the published templates I can access. Availability depends on your account and workspace policies.
Add the remote server and sign in from your terminal:
codex mcp add shippdf --url https://mcp.shippdf.com
codex mcp login shippdf Use /mcp to inspect the connection.
Add this to ~/.codex/config.toml:
[mcp_servers.shippdf]
url = "https://mcp.shippdf.com"
bearer_token_env_var = "SHIPPDF_API_TOKEN" Set SHIPPDF_API_TOKEN in the environment that launches Codex. Create the token in ShipPDF’s Members & keys with the permissions you need.
Add the server URL and choose OAuth, or configure an API token in the Authorization header.
https://mcp.shippdf.com Granted permissions determine which templates and tools the client can use.
With Node.js installed, use mcp-remote as a local bridge. Add this configuration to your client:
{
"mcpServers": {
"shippdf": {
"command": "npx",
"args": [
"-y",
"mcp-remote",
"https://mcp.shippdf.com",
"--header",
"Authorization:${SHIPPDF_AUTH_HEADER}"
],
"env": {
"SHIPPDF_AUTH_HEADER": "Bearer spdf_xxx"
}
}
}
} Replace spdf_xxx with your API token and restart the client if required. Store the token in your client’s private configuration.

02 · Put it to work
Describe your document’s structure. Your agent can create a draft, edit its fields and adjust its pages.
Browse available templates and their data schemas to fill each document with the right fields.
Use a published template and your data to generate a document and retrieve its download link.
Turn your draft into a published revision. Use the same template from your agent or the REST API.
Workspace permissions and scoped tokens limit the tools and resources available to your agent.
Inspect the template and generate previews before publishing a revision for your documents.
03 · Start with a request
“Use our invoice template for these services and give me the PDF link.”
“Create a proposal template with our logo, the project scope and a pricing table.”
“Generate the inspection report with these findings and the published template.”
“Create a shipping label template with the recipient, address and a barcode.”
Any MCP-compatible client that can connect to ShipPDF’s remote server. There are guides for Claude Desktop, ChatGPT and Codex, plus a bridge for clients that only support stdio.
Yes. MCP tools let your agent create and edit a draft, inspect the template, generate previews, and publish a reusable revision.
You can connect a compatible assistant and ask it to create templates or generate documents in natural language. Initial setup depends on the client you use.
No. PDF generation through MCP uses the same published templates and workspace credits as the REST API.
Yes. Available tools depend on granted scopes. An API token can also restrict access to specific resources; OAuth connections have workspace-wide resource access within their granted scopes.
